HELP!
Calling all mom's who have successfully potty trained recently. I need help. The first week and a half of potty training (although exhausting) went well. Athen only had a few accidents and he was doing so well. It was a positive experience and he was happy to go potty on the big boy toilet. In the beginning we were bringing him and he was going on demand and then he started letting us know when he needed to go. We finally started leaving the house and I was a little worried but still we had success. He stayed dry all day, he went potty at church, at the mall, and my moms house and was doing great.
Then he started going through a phase for a day or so where he would say he had to go and then sit down and wouldn't go. He did this for a day or so, wanting to go to the potty every 15 minutes. The last few days he has refused to sit on the potty. He will not go to the bathroom. He holds it in all day long. I know he needs to go because he dances around and holds him self but he will not sit down. When we bring him to the potty he staightens up his body and wouldn't sit down. He won't take bribes - no candy, toys, movies, vitamins, stickers anything. Eventually after way too long he wets his pants. We have tried having him take off his own pants and putting them in the laundry and putting dry ones on but he doesn't want to do that. We have tried leaving the wet ones on which he doesn't like but that hasn't worked either.
I have been giving him tons to drink and am trying to feed him things like prunes (because he is way constipated at this point). I am worried he is going to damage his blatter (which happened to me when I was pregnant with him and the doctors wouldn't let me pee, it was a painful experience).
Any advice???? Please help!

Poor little guy (and you). Andrew did something similar at his age (or a little older). It really caused problems to push it, so we stopped potty training, waited a few months, and tried again. Don't make it a power struggle... at least that's what I learned from our experience.
West had an episode after seeing his poop in the toilet a week into it and wouldn't go. The pediatrician said to wait till we moved and settled but I don't take no for an answer when I knew he was capable of doing it. The next time he did the dance I just sat him square on his potty and just held him there till it all came out. He just looked so relieved to go potty(poop!) and we didn't have a problem after that. Note, we did make a huge deal about it once he finished and had a big treat to celebrate.
Have him wear diapers again and tell him he can use the potty again when he's ready to be a big boy. Sounds harsh but maybe he'll miss the undies. It's better to not have the terrible power struggles about it. It sounds like you've already tried everything. Just step back and give him a few weeks. Don't even mention the potty. It's totally fine. He's young still. I did the same thing with Karen and the second time around everything was much easier.
I agree with kristina and lauren, don't push it and put him back diapers...it not worth the trauma for you and him and try again in a couple of months
Let him make it HIS idea. Zoe still doesn't go to the bathroom when I ask her to. It's not until it's her idea or she can't hold it any longer she decides to go. Make Athen feel he is in control. You could go back to diapers and then he may make the decision to keep them off or on. You want to make it pleasant or it will always be a struggle. Stay positive!! And try not to make the accidents a big deal. If he sees it makes you upset he most likely will use it against you. Good luck!
...ugh potty training. I started Jackson at two and like you it went well at first... Let's say I won't be potty training Justice until he takes his diaper off and goes by himself! I should have listened to the moms with 4+ kids. ;)
