Weekend BlogLog - June 27th

We spent the weekend in Utah at the Bingham family camp out. My sister picked me up from the airport and I was able to spend the day with her before Rick flew in from his business trip. We spent some time in the fabric stores looking for boy fabric for our little guy's quilt. I didn't want the quilt to be one color and boring. I wanted it to be colorful, fun and different. Well, different and colorful it is, but so far no one likes the fabrics I spent hours choosing. The colors are; green, blue, red, orange, yellow and black. No one seems to think the materials match, but once it becomes one piece then of course it will match right?

On Friday morning we drove to our campsite in Diamond Fork Canyon with Caitlyn and David. It was green and beautiful. The whole Bingham family was there except Jessica, Jeff and their kids.

Of course I didn't do much over the weekend but sit around, grow bigger and take walks to the bathroom. Rick on the other hand, kept pretty busy shooting Beebe guns, fishing, digging for worms, hiking, playing in the waterfalls and hot springs and trying to catch butterflies with all the nieces and nephews. He is definitely adored by those kids. They can't seem to escape his side. He is going to be the best daddy!

Our first day there we had some thunder storms and rain but we managed to keep somewhat dry and still enjoyed ourselves. The rest of the weekend was sunny and hot. We had tons of delicious food; kebobs, bbq ribs, big breakfasts and tons of my favorite snacks. It doesn't get much better than camping in a beautiful spot with family and delicious foods!

Here I am at 17 weeks. Pretty big for such a long time left!

Happy Birthday Ricky, I love you!

You would think my blog would be updated a little bit better since I have been on bed rest for the last week. However, bed rest has left me with absolutely nothing to blog about except aching hips, a messy house, pizza delivery guys and my favorite - a new membership to netflix (it took me a few days before I finally got netflix and it definitely saved my sanity).

For those of you who don't know, I have complete placenta previa which causes me to hemorrhage. I have now been bleeding for days and days. I won't go in to any other details for those of you who are sensitive and don't like to hear about those kinds of things. Anyways, it has been scary, stressful and not very comfortable but the good news is our little guys is still kickin. We had a scare on Tuesday night and went back to the doctor to make sure our little guy was still alive. He was and a typical boy he was being. The doctor was doing another ultra sound and our little guy decided to moon the camera. We got a great shot of his butt, his little legs and his little pp. It made me crack up. I come from a prankster family and the thought of my little guy mooning everyone before he even came out of the womb made me bust up laughing. I knew Rick would get a kick out of it too so I put a bow on it and gave it to him for his birthday.  I'll scan the pictures and post later so everyone can see our cute little prankster.

My poor husband who has been doing everything for me for the last two weeks and has been the sweetest ever had a birthday on Wednesday when I was on bed rest. I had been planning what I was going to get him for his birthday and what I was going to do for him for the last month. Once I thought of the perfect gift for him I planned on going down to Santa Cruz on one of my Fridays off to get it. Unfortunately that Friday I was on bed rest and haven't had a chance since then to get it. So poor Rick had nothing special for his birthday but a mooning picture of his son.

My sweet mom got back in to town from vacation to find me back on bed rest. Wednesday she came over while Rick was at work to keep me company. She cleaned our house, did our laundry, changed our sandy sheets and did our dishes. She also went grocery shopping for us, made a special dinner for Rick's birthday and bought a birthday cake. When Rick came home from work he came home to some music playing a nicely set table with a delicious dinner, a birthday cake, a few picture of our bun mooning us and a few gifts to come in the future.

Thanks Mom for taking care of us and making Rick's birthday special! We love you to pieces.

I thought I would post some picture for those of you who don't live close by to see the little bun. I felt like I started showing pretty early on. The doctor said I would show early since I was pretty small to start off with. Although I have lost weight this last week, I feel like I have popped out a lot. These pictures are a little old and I don't have a new one yet. I will post another one at 4 months which will be this week.

This is a shot of what I use to look like. This was in February a few weeks after our miscarriage.

This was taken at 2.5 months.

This was taken at 3.5 months. I feel like I have grown since this picture even though it has only been a few weeks and I've lost weight. I'll post the next one at 4 month once I get out of bed, take a shower and put regular clothes on.

We've got ourselves a sticky bun!

This time around our little bun decided to stick. We have had some complications which took us to the Stanford hospital Wednesday night but our little guy is a fighsty one and with relief we saw it kickin like a banshee. Although we aren't out of the woods yet we are very hopeful that our little guy will continue to stick around. After several ultra sounds we were able to see at 13.5 weeks that our little bun is a he (yeah - killed my curiosity for the next 6 weeks).

Since I tried to help my mom name my little twin brother several years ago, Juniper was my suggestion (his name is Justin), my mom decided to help us name our little guy. Her suggestion was Aardvark. Since my mind set has been on cute little girls names for the last little while (I assumed I would have a cute little girl first) I have had to change over to cool tough little boy names so if you have any suggestions please let us know. I don't know that I can live with Aardvark!

Last Weekend in May

We got home from NC and two days later we headed down to Carmel area for the weekend with some of our married friends from Palo Alto. We stayed in this beautiful 15 million dollar house on 27 acres of private land over looking the ocean. It was surrounded by windows and beautiful views. The house had decks surrounding the back with the ocean view and a pool and hot tub towards the front. Friday night on the way up we stopped off at Dave's BBQ for dinner and took our timing getting there. We sat by a nice big fire and enjoyed the night together.

Saturday morning we had a big breakfast with pancakes, egg scrambles with all the delicious fixins, sausage, bacon and of course OJ. Some of the guys including Rick headed to the beach for some surfing while others went hiking at Big Sur and some stayed behind enjoyed the fire, windows, views and a nice cozy overcast morning inside. Saturday evening we all made a big huge dinner with baked pototes, corn on the cob, fruit salad, lots of green salads and some delicious steak on the BBQ. In the afternoon some went swimming, sat in the hot tub and enjoyed the outdoors.

It was a fun relaxing weekend with friends. Thanks Molly for the invite and good luck in Colorado we will miss you!!!

Raleigh

We headed to North Carolina for the week to visit my life long best friend Toni and her family. This is always a trip that I love. Not only is it great to hang out with Toni, Matt and their adorable four kids but it a relaxing time. I love the easy going slow pace of NC, no traffic, no horn honking, everyone knows everyone, no tour buses cruising by with tons of people and cute downtowns.  Our plans were to show Rick around, play with the kids, relax and go to the beaches along the coast.

Our first day we showed Rick around Duke and all the other college campus' around. We loved Duke, the buildings were amazing. We then came home made dinner and played with the kids. After dinner we walked down to the new neighborhood Gelato cafe for some delicious Gelato.

The next day Toni and I went to the kids school to help out with their field day - games, fun and water all day while Rick spent a few hours working from the house. We then took Scarlett to get her ears pierced for her 6th birthday. We then  headed to the neighborhood pool for swimming. Of course Rick loved this. We played around in the pool with all the kids, went down the big waterslide, took underwater pictures and had lots of fun. After the swimming we had a pizza party for Scarlett's birthday. Toni's family joined us and we made Scarlett a beach cake which is what she wanted.

On Saturday we all headed to Wrightsville Beach. To my surprise the waves were pretty big and people were surfing. The last time I went to the beach on the east coast the water was as calm as a lake at dusk so I wasn't expecting to see California like conditions. Rick spent several hours in the water with Matt and the kids. They dug deep holes and built sandcastles. Rick smartened up this time and decided to bury the kids in the sand rather than letting them bury him in the sand. Sad for Rick, there was no wind for him to go kiteboarding. It would have been fun for him to show the kids his big kite.

On Sunday we went to a somewhat normal church service and I joined Toni in YW (she is the president) to see how a typical YW Sunday went - much different then our situation in Oakland.

On Monday Toni gave us a tour of downtown Raleigh. We took Win the youngest with us and visited a few museums. We went to The Pit for lunch. It was a great southern style BBQ joint. That week they were on Bobby Flay's smackdown for their ribs and won so of course we had to try their ribs. The food was great! We then headed to Locopops which is a place where they make funny flavored popsicles. This was right up our alley since we like to try random flavored popsicles in other countries when we are on vacation. I had a lavender plum popsicle which was good and Rick had a blueberries and cream which was great as well. We then headed to the lake which was about 5 minutes a way. We didn't go boating because it started to sprinkle, but we did take a little hike along the water with the whole family. However, we did get ticks and lots of them. That is the one thing I don't like about NC - ticks. I pulled four out of Rick and he pulled two out of me. The kids were filled with them as well.  That night we had a BBQ and invited some of Toni's family friends over. It was fun getting to know other people and experiencing their lives which are so different from ours. Some day we will get out of California, live in a neighborhood, have a family and friends and their kids over for BBQ dinners and lake trips.

May

The month of May has been busy and fun. About three weekends ago we went to the drive-in movies in Concord with some of our friends in Oakland. We saw the Star Trek movie, the ghost/girlfriend of the past movie and Wolverine. None were that great but Rick has really been wanting to see the Star Trek and Wolverine movie so what better place to see them but at the drive-in. A place where you can doze off into a pleasant slumber in the comforts of the roomy Land Rover.

It was a nice warm day so I decided to bring the fondue pot to the drive-in for some delicious treats while watching the movies. I made a chili, cheese and cilantro dip in the fondue pot to go with some tortilla chips. We also had some cut up watermelon which was delicious, some popcorn and homemade symphony bar cookies. I must say the fondue pot was a brilliant idea for the drive-in. If I had more time to plan I would have made my favorite cheese fondue.

Saturday we woke up and decided to head to Santa Cruz, one of our favorite summer time places which we hadn't been to in a long time. We met up with our friends Justin and Silvia for a Brazilian BBQ. We then headed over to a new place called Samba Acai Cafe. If you aren't familiar with the famous Brazilian dish called Acai bowls you are missing out. They have strawberries, bananas, granola, Acai, and Guaranara made into a icee like smoothie. It is very refreshing and delicious. Typically we get these at Cafe Brazil but we decided to try the new Samba Acai Cafe. They make fancy ones with mangoes, papaya, blueberries, passion fruit and just about every other fruit you can think of.

We then headed to the beach to meet up with some of our single friends from Palo Alto. We played volleyball on the beach and hung out for awhile. It was nice to see everyone. We shopped around for awhile at the surf shops since it was the pre-memorial day weekend sale.

Sunday we went over to our friends in the ward for a brunch. It was delicious. We had healthy homemade cornmeal waffles, omelets with all the good stuff and lots of fresh fruit. We then headed to Lake Temsecal for a BBQ with a bunch of people from the ward. We were saying good bye to a family that just moved out.

It was a fun weekend in the sun with friends!
