Costa Rica - Day 3

We got up early and headed out to the jungle to take a tour of the monkeys and watch them eat. It was a ripe off if you ask me. They charged us $50 to watch them feed monkeys in a cage. It would have been much cheaper if we took the kids to the zoo. However, the kids loved seeing the monkeys up close. There were several different kinds of monkeys and marmosets etc. After the monkeys we headed to the grocery store for some snacks and water and we bought a BBQ rotisserie chicken which was so delicious. We took it back to our swimming pool and made chicken sandwiches with fresh baguettes along with some fresh watermelon.

 Crew loved the monkeys. He kept making monkey noises and clapping his hands.

 These were our favorite monkeys because they were loud, always banging pieces of wood together because they wanted more food and were jumping every where.

 Rick was cracking open a coconut here for us to eat.

 This guy is such a sweat ball. He constantly had a sweaty head with funky hair and sand every where.

 After swimming for a bit we headed to Manuel Antonio National Park and walked around a bit. We saw a huge iguana on the side of the road which the kids loved. We then played by the side of the river (since it was shady) and the boys played in the sand and collected coconuts on the beach. They loved building "towers" with the coconuts. This was one of their favorite activities.

We then bought some coconuts to drink which we all love including the boys. Rick usually climbs up the trees for us and get our own but this time we just bought some along the beach.

As the afternoon got closer we decided to head back to the resort beach which was much nicer and less people. We ended our day there again playing in the sand and water until the sun went down.By the time we got down there, which took a while 4 wheeling down a steep dirt road, Athen had to go to the bathroom. If you have read my blog before you know that Athen does not like to go to the bathroom anywhere other then the toilet. We were a little nervous about this since there was no toilet around. We told him to find a coconut and try and pee inside, assuming he would not do it. However, a few minutes later I was wondering where Athen was and sure enough I found him on the other side of the car peeing into a coconut all by himself. It cracked me up. Since then I have found him a few times peeing on trees, bushes etc. In fact, on Monday we went to my friend Cat's place for a potluck brunch with all the girls and kids. On the way out Athen pulled down his pants and peed on a tree as I was buckling Crew into the car. They live on Telegraph Ave. I guess the coconut helped him over come his fear.

 Too bad you can't see these next few pictures all that well, but Crew is completely covered in sand including his whole face. Several times we had to rinse him in the shower on the beach because he had piles of sand in his eyes and as you can imagine that doesn't feel good.

 Our favorite time of the day, playing on the beach as the sun goes down.

 There happen to be a wedding at one end of the beach so we watched them send off chinese sky lanterns over the ocean. The boys enjoyed seeing all the lights go up. What a fun place for sky lanterns.

Another good day in Costa Rica.
